Pregnancy Appts/Not Announcing to DCP?

DH and I are trying to conceive...hopeful for a positive test soon!

Anyway, I rarely take off work for appts and when I do, I always inform DCP about it. Ie: "My mom is taking the kids for a bit today so I can go to the dentist...." etc.

Well, I've recently done all of my annual check ups-dentist, physical, and tomorrow OB/Gyn. I get them all at the same time to remember. I didn't consider this in planning a pregnancy because I don't want to announce to DCP right away, yet, obviously I'll have appts.

I know I don't HAVE to tell them why I'm going somewhere, but I always do...so it'll be odd to be secretive about it. Any ideas of past experiences?Maybe I get a lot of cavities or have some bank appts? lol Thanks guys!

I would just tell them you have some personal business to attend to, and you wont be available. Most parents will catch on once it's happening once a month for regular appointments, so yea, eventually you'll have to spill the beans.

Honestly it's all up to you on when and how you want to tell them!
We are expecting our 4th right now, just found out about a week ago, but I have no intention of announcing it to my families until I'm past the 1st trimester.

I have a regular part time assistant and my daycare parents dont even know if I have to run out unless they pickup or drop off during that time. I rarely give a reason, just mention that I have to run out for a quick appt. I think you are feeling that you have to do something that you really dont.....that being, give a reason. If they already are comfortable with your mom as your backup, just plan appts during mid day and do what you need to do. I guess I just do not even worry about offering info unless asked. The parents all know my assistant, know she is here weekly, trust that I would never leave the kids with anyone but her and that is all that needs to be said.

I am pregnant right now and have no plans to announce anytime soon. I am 11 weeks. I'll probably wait until the bump starts noticeably peeking out!

I am 5 weeks- waiting until my first OB appointment before I tell my kids or the daycare parents.

Don't feel you have to lie to the parents, just say you have an appointment. It's rude of them to ask anyway. ;)

Whatever my appointment is for, I usually just tell my dcp's that I have an appt and leave it at that.

I used to be like this and now I just address it as personal matters....this way I don't have to tell them exactly what i am doing. I don't feel they need to know every time I go to the doctors or dentist, post office or bank.

Us too! Our number has always been 4, so each time they've said 'IT'S A GIRL!!', I heard the mumbled 'Ugh, it's always a girl' from my husband. :D

E: One nice thing about all girls, I have never bought new clothes for any child but my oldest, yay for being a weird pack rat with 80 bags of clothing in the basement!

We had 3 girls before ds. Dh almost passed out when I told him it was a boy (we didn't find out the gender with the girls and weren't intending to find out with him either).

Good luck getting your boy. I'm expecting in Aug. My kids all are voting boy, except dd3 who is voting girl because she is "tired of being the youngest girl in the family."

Also, you don't have very many appointments during the first trimester of a normal, healthy pregnancy. I have four children and have always had my FIRST appointment with my midwives (after my test came back positive) at around 10 weeks of pregnancy, and then once a month from there. :)

With my last pg, we didn't "announce" until second trimester or so. It was after christmas break, and stuff...he was born in May. My wonderful, awesome, large family supporting OB has one late night w/ appts until 7pm. Awesome. Be super duper nice to the nurses and receptionist, and I always got my late appointments even if they had to squeeze me it. Wonderful! I am a very low maintenance patient, though. The only appt I had to close early for was my level2 ultrasound at 24wks? with the specialist...BUT that was only because we didnt' do any other testing, not for any concerns.

Thanks guys.and congrats to everyone expecting!!! I hope that a test will soon allow me to join the grouphappyface It'll be my first...we'll see if the popular girl trend stays true. lol

I know my OB does first appts at 8 weeks, so I have a while to figure it out. I know I dont HAVE to tell the parents and it's not like I think they'd insist that they should know...I can just see if being awkward like hmm why isn't she saying why this time. I guess I'll figure it out when the time comes. I'd rather not announce to anyone other than family (still debating that) before the first trimester is over.

My Ob is flexible too, let me come in at 730 today even though she opens at 8, so DH could take the kids and not be TOO Late for work.

I'm hoping for a boy- I have all girls too and my DH needs a little man :) Of course, we will be happy with a healthy baby either way!

I'll join in. I am 6 weeks. happyfacehappyfacehappyfacehappyfacehappyface I found out a week ago. We'd been trying for almost a year. I've told some family, but we're waiting until after my 8 week appt. before I tell the rest. Friends/Facebook announcement will be end of June. I am hoping not to tell my daycare parents for awhile, especially since I might have to do another c-section. I'm going to take 3 months off too, and I don't want my families to leave.

Good luck to everyone else who is expecting! lovethis

We just found out we're having boy #3. happyface

I ended up telling around 8 weeks, because I was SOOO sick that I was afraid that the DCP's would think I had a horrible disease or something. :p

However, I agree that you don't have to share any news until you're ready.

Congrats to all of the expecting providers! Newtodaycare, I hope you get your positive soon.

godiva83 05-01-2012 07:28 PM

Congrats to all the expecting Mummas out there. And my fingers are crossed you get a big + sign soon.

I have had rather difficult pregnancy and have had many appointment from the get go! I just told parents that I had Doctors appointments assured them I was okay, nothing serious or contagious and went on with my day. One parent was rude when I finally told them but she is always rude

Wow there must be something with this forum. Everyone is pregnant. That's good for me we are trying for #3 it has been about 4months now and no luck. But it took 2 yrs with the first and 8 months with the second so I am not expecting anything to quick. I have two healthy kids already so if it works it works not getting to shook up about it. We would really like another to add to the family.
