Infection or Diaper Rash?

I have a 2yo dcb who has a red, swollen penis. Dc mom said he had diaper rash this morning at drop-off, but there's very little redness anywhere else. It looks like there's a bump under the skin and a small reddish scratch on the outside of the skin of the penis. Dcb cries and fusses when I wipe it or when I carry him straddled on my hip. He's not circumcised (I don't know if that even makes a difference), but could it be an infection under the foreskin? Or could he just have been playing with himself and irritated it? He doesn't have a fevr or any other symptoms. I've never seen anything like this before. I msged dc mom so that she'd know, but she's at an appointment today so I don't expect to hear back from her too soon.

I would have her come get him and take him to the dr. I messed around with a similar deal yesterday with a DCG. It could be an infection, possibly staph, and you don't want to mess around with that. I now know that if it doesn't look like typical diaper rash, send the kid home and require a dr note to return.

sounds like something is going on, did he have a bubble bath. Try wiping with warm warm and wash cloth, sometimes i find no matter what kind of wipes they are irritating.
