Do you guys have nicknames for your dcks?

If you do are they always nice ones?

Do any of you have nicknames that you wouldn't use in front of the parents?

shucks yeah.
My own kids have nick names and we pick around alot.
My youngest calls me Madre unit?? I don't know why and I call her DLo after Jlo.
Both my girls have crazy nick names for their step dad. but we tone it down around the DCkids and DCPs.
we also call them D1, (for Daughter #1) D2 and the dog is D3.

I do have nicknames for the dacycare kids but they are nice and it is usually just a play on their name that I would call them in front of their parents.

Like izzie, or bethie boodle, or weepie. Things the other kids say when they can't pronounce the childs name.

I don't if this is the reason why but in high school I remember calling my parents my "Parental Units" and it was just another word for parents. Madre means mother in spanish so Madre Unit to me just sounds like she's calling you her female parental unit. I think it's cute and funny .

Back to OP
We have nicknames for our DC kids but they are names that the kids give each other or names that they are called at home. We don't give them bad nicknames to use during DC but we have occasionally (between my DH and I) have had our own nicknames for some that weren't always very becoming .

For example during DC I have 3 girls that all have the same name starting with the letter G and they all use the same nickname at home so here at DC we call them Big G***x, Medium G***x and Small G***x. That's what they prefer so that's what we use. The boys have crazy nickanames that they choose for themselves like Santa Tortilla and Bones Fire so I go with that if that's what they want .

As for after DC hours I've refered to some of my problematic DCK's with a nickname when discussing them with other DC providers to prevent using their real names. I had one DCB that would cry all day and he was "Waylon" because he wailed all day etc. Negative nicknames were never used in front of any DC kids or my own kids for that matter.

As for my own kids ... well that's free game. We call my DD Mowgli (from the jungle book) because she's lean but strong and loves getting dirty. SHe's always a mess and has a great tan skin tone. When she was a toddler and into pre-school we had a hard time keeping clothes on her and she's run around in her chonies and she has the same haircut as Mowgli . She's Mowgli at all hours of the day.

My DS is Destructo or Fredo Baggins. Destructo is self explanatory and Fredo Baggins is because his name is Alfredo of his size (he's 17mo) and he has these fat and wide little feet like a hobbit . He's Fredo all of the time too and won't respond to anything else. Even the DC parents call my kids Mowgli and Fredo.

Most of my nicknames are nice ones... Now I have one dcb is huge and eats constantly... So he has acquired the nickname "piggy"... I think it's cute but my mom thinks it's mean!! I guess maybe subconsciously I do too since I don't use it in front of his mom... But he is my little (big) "piggy" I think it's endearing

I don't know... I felt bad when she said that I didn't mean it in a mean way!

I have an almost 4yr old who tells you the most obvious things. I started calling him Captain Obvious when he started doing this and now everyone calls him Captain or Captain Obvious, even his extended family. I've been calling his 6yr old sister sister Princess Oblivious since she started with me and friends and family call her that, too but not as often as her brother.

I have a boy in care who has a great sense of humour and can be a monkey at times. I call him Booger Boy and his mom laughs.

Another boy in care is tiny in stature but will knock you down if you're in his way. I call him Big Guy and just lately, Spitfire.

I have an almost 2yr old boy who always looks like a deer in headlights. I refer to him as a stunned bunny but never to his parents and I don't call him that directly.

My 22 month old DCG could give him a run for his money because she does 100+ piece puzzles all the time. My DD did too at that age so I always just thought it was a girl thing....kwim?

Nah, not so much.

I leave that for home. Plus I want them to know and be able to to say their real names. I have a couple girls with long names that we shortened, but that's about it.

I have four boys whose names start with the letter j, and a different four whose names all rhyme....i get tongue tied a lot, so I call them Sister and Brother, or Sir and Ma'am

We like using nicknames here.

They aren't always "nice" but they aren't inappropriate.

For example: I have a 3.5 year old who is the "tribe leader". We call him "Ringleader" or "Senor Naughtypants".

Haha all the time!!

I call everyone Stinky or a variation thereof. Stinker, Stinkeroony, Stinky Bubble, etc. I also make nicknames based on their names. I have Mr. G, Y-Y, HarleyDavidson, Rachael Ray, Meggerz, DD, and my oldest dd is always Sis.

I rarely call anyone by their given names.

I use nicknames if discussing them with another provider so their identities aren't known.

I have a nickname for DCG and I make a song of it. I call her "H***** Banana" Especially when she is crying I sing her, her song. DS also has his own song using his first and last name which I have sang to him since he was born and he LOVES.

DCGs not so nice nickname is "Monkey Girl" because she does resemble a monkey a little bit It is said in an endearing sort of way though!

To me it's all in the TONE! I can't help but call him "Piggy" his nose turns up, he squeals when he gets fussy, and he's huge and lives/loves to eat... It just fits...

I call my dd my little monkey! Cause she's crazy and I just think its cute.. Shoot I bought her some onesies from target with monkeys on them!

Lord help me if Piggy ever shows up in a piggy onesie!!

I have one we call "Jersey Boy" because he has the cutest twang to his speach and although it sounds like an East coast accent, he is born and raised here in MN.

We have lots of nicknames here too, my older daughter was infatuated with the muppets as a young child. So she has given the kids each their own muppet name. They wouldn't always be considered nice or based on their strengths, but they definately fit. I think some parents have sometimes been a little defensive of some of the nicknames the child has given, but they learn to find the humor in it. The kids just love their nicknames, even if they dont understand why they received it.

My husband has nicknames for some of the parents (that they have no idea about). Lets see there is Miss Thing, Miss Piggy, Cousin It, Erkle, and Fresh Prince to name a few.

The other thing is my son (10 yrs) started this thing when one of the kids would barely hurt themselves, they would always be a little too dramatic. He would say "Don't be such a sissy-la-la" The DCkids have used it now. Not all the time, but usually when it is totally fitting and absolutely hilarious. Thanks to my son, they have totally cut down on the boo-boo drama!

One of the dCm said that she had been upset at her husband for something for a few days and one day after dinner she was kind of complaining to her husband about all the extra work she had to do now. Her 3 yr old son, says "Mom's being a sissy-la-la" She said, she couldnt help it but crack up because she was totally caught whinning!

I can't keep everyone's name straight so boys become "mister" and girls become "young lady" or "missy." Sometimes I call any random kid "baby" or "potato head." It's basically whatever I can think of off the top of my head.

That's what I call my overweight golden retriever. Some know her as Bella. Others call her Chub Chub.
