Hello! I have a legally unlicensed daycare, can only have four children in my home at a time that I'm watching. I currently have five total, their ages are 14, 16, and 18 months, 2 and 3 years old. All of them call me Mom or Mommy. I was raised to call my elders/daycare providers Ms.Whoever. However I do have a slight problem, my name is Chesney, none of my younger sisters or brother were able to pronounce my name until they were elementary school, so still to this day they call me "Sissy". I need something that they can call me other than Mom, but don't want them calling me Sissy, and none of them can even begin to pronounce Chesney, they just look at me like I'm crazy.
Any ideas?

Most years they called me by "Miss ***"...
Currently all call me "Auntie ***" (even the parents call me that.)
I may have just started sliding over the hill and Miss *** just won't cut it anymore???
I am hoping I win the lottery before they start calling me "Granny ***"

Most the kids call me Missy or MeMe.
Mom, Jenn, Jennifer, one that just started talking uses the end of my name "fer"

Most of mine call me Aunt ****. Even my own DD calls me Aunt **** when the DC kids are around, her choice not mine.

I've always been Momma, but the oldest I've ever had in care is just 2 1/2. In recent weeks, she has started calling me by my name more and only says Momma when she is excited or upset.

They call me mommy until they are about three, then it's Emily or Miss Emily. I refer to myself as either and don't mind if they use just my first name.

Yep.
Honestly I can't stand it. I just want to say "I'm not your mommy" every time they say it
Once they learn it they use my first name.

When I first started daycare they called me Miss ******. When I worked in a center they called me Teacher******. Now that I have been doing this for sooooo many years they call me Granny and I love it!

How about Ms. C? teacher? Boss lady?
I don't make my kids call me anything specific. I've been called many things through the years, depending on what the kids could pronounce at their particular age. Sometimes I have to giggle at some of them though. Alot of the kids do call me mom since I have a couple kids of my own and most of my foster kids have always called me mom. It just seemed natural for the others to call me mom too. I don't mind it at all. Some parents have been a little weird about it, but once I explain why it tends to happen, everyone understands.

now I feel like a tool....
I hope I take it as gracefully as you when it happens...
I am 40, so I am not ready.....
I am still coping with bag boys calling me 'Mam..... I don't have to like it yet, do I?
Ms. ____. Always Ms. ____. If you call me by my first name (one child attempted it) I will ignore you until you are respectful.
I live in the south.

Miss _______ (my first name) or their own version of it.

Cat, I felt the same way you did when I was 40. Back then I would have never thought I would still be doing daycare at 60. But I love the kids!!!

Thank you ladies for all of the responses! I'm beginning to think it's just the age group that I have then. I do refer to myself as Ms. Chesney when talking to them though, hopefully they'll catch on, it just stings a little when they call me Mom.

When I had littles they called me mom or mommy. Now that I take only 2 and up they call me Katie or Ms. Katie.

It's just because they are young. They think that is just the name of any woman who cares for them- they also tend to call all men daddy or dada.
I haven't started my daycare yet but I plan on either being called Miss/Ms/Mrs Star or Auntie Star; depending on what the family is comfortable with- the new kid I am going to be watching the mom wants him to call me 'Auntie Star'. But when I start my daycare I also plan to have a preschool program so once they get to preschool age I might try to encorage them to address me more as 'Miss/Ms/Mrs Star' because I want to prepare them for school and most kindergaden teachers don't go by 'Auntie (first name)' or just their first name.
They call me by my first name. Some of the parents refer to me as Miss (first name).
