Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Anyone Have A Bathroom On Different Level Than Day Care??
Unregistered 06:06 AM 03-03-2012
I live in a bilevel and my daycare is all downstairs, but both bathrooms are on the upper level. I am starting my day care in June and wondering how you all manage this situation? How do you take little ones up to the bathroom while tending to the others? My set up is great,I think, other than that. Just very worried about this one part.

I have my daycare room in the basement and the bathroom is upstairs. For the older kids who know how to go potty on their own, I will send them upstairs to take care of themselves. For ones just learning or still need help, I have a kids plastic portable potty for them. So far it has worked out great!

I have a downstairs daycare and the bathroom is upstairs. I really hate it. It's a lot of running up and down the stairs. I have the older ones use the bathroom before we go downstairs and I change all the diapers, my diaper changing area is in the bathroom. I let the older ones go up by themselves and if I step into the mechanical room I can hear them flush and if they are playing in the water when washing hands. It's not ideal but it works. My dream is to put a bathroom in downstairs someday.

I have a bathroom on the same level that I use, but the daycare bathroom is upstairs. I cart everybody upstairs 5 times/day for pottying/diapering. While having the bathroom upstairs isn't ideal, I do like that we have specific times to do everyone at once. And this way, the littles learn to use the stairs quite quickly!

In my state a new law just passed that the provider must be on the same floor as the child at all times. Which means, if this law ever passed with your state you'd be in a world of hurt. Imagine nap time, everyone asleep, and the 4 yo has to go pee.

Just be prepared.

Same here...everyone has to be on the same floor, PLUS the bathroom has to be on the same floor. I have a bathroom on this floor but my licensor looked like she wanted to take out a measuring tape because we have a long hallway leading to it.
