I am currently watching 2 full children and two part time preschool children in my home that I am paid to take care. I am also watching two grandchildren that I do not charge for. I am not licensed and do not plan on doing so. I have been asked by another family to watch their little and would be paid for this. Is this legal? I live in Iowa. Thank you.

I found this for you:
http://dhs.iowa.gov/licensure-and-registration
Child Care Homes - People who provide childcare in their own homes and who care for five or fewer children are not required to be registered but have the option to do so.

It appears like you might be over ratio if you have 6 sometimes.

Also, check out here for requirements (even for non-registered folks). It seems like you need to apply and ensure you only have 5 preschool aged children or less in your home.
