Do you close if your own young child has a fever or illness? Or do you just isolate them? What if it's a baby?

I separate them from the group and either have my husband take off his job to run the business or I do and he tends to the baby.

I've read on here many times of providers informing the parents, however, and remaining open. The parents then have the option to bring their own child or not.

I follow my own illness policy.

If my child can be cared for by someone else and not be present in care then I would remain open but I would NOT keep my child in care AND operate the child care if there were no family member present to help keep child isolated.

IMHO, its difficult to enforce your illness policy with parents if you don't follow it as well.

My own kids are older and self sufficient so I remain open when they are sick and just isolate them. If they are TOO sick to take care of themselves for the most part, I will close. That has never happened though. If I had my own infant who was sick, I would close. Can't isolate an infant while also caring for other kiddos unless you have an assistant (which I don't).

My kids, unfortunately, have to learn to be pretty self-sufficient at a young age when sick, because this is my only income. I don't close unless it's a reportable illness or she's too sick to vomit into a bowl or the toilet. She stays in my bedroom when ill, where she can use my bathroom. Both of those rooms are off limits for daycare, so she's not exposing anyone to her illness. When she was younger I told parents what the symptoms were and let them decide what to do....mostly they based it on when she came down with the illness and whether or not their own children had already been exposed.

When my kids were younger (under 3) I always closed when they were sick because it was too hard to take care of them and continue day care. Now that they are older, I inform parents of their symptoms and plan to isolate in the back bedroom (off limits to day care). Sometimes parents decide to come anyways, sometimes they don't. If they do come, they know that it won't be a day full of art projects and hands on activities, because I am splitting my time between checking on my own kiddo and running the day care.

Most times either my husband or mother in law will call into work and take care of the kids. When baby was under a year I would just keep him more isolated and have him contune in care since he was young it was simple to do with my set up. Now that my oldest is 4 I would think of letting him remain in my Movie room (for family next to the daycare room). So far I've been running for 3 years and only had to call them in a couple times (my kids like to wait for the weekend to get sick).
The only time I closed not for vacation is when I was in the hospital with a pregnancy scare with my youngest. (So far a least)

I text parents to let them know and leave it up to them. Then hubby stays home to take care of kid upstairs away from the other kids. If hubby cant stay home I close.
