This might be a dumb question but I need to ask...if there is no contract made between a parent and a care provider, does the provider have any legal recourse against the parent for failure to pay, give notice, etc?

Nope! Although a verbal agreement can sometimes work in court, you really need some documentation.

Agreed! Even after 34+ years doing this, I still am learning how to 'cover my own tush'.
Document, document, document, signed contracts, paper trail....those terms are used for a good reason.
