Hi Tom,
I have a parent that is telling me that they are trying to file using H&R Block E-file and that the program is saying that in order to file through them, that my EIN number is not being accepted when they run the checks. So they want my SS number. I am not sure how my other families filed, but no one else had these issues. I am a little uncomfortable giving out my SS#.
what else can I do?

Your EIN number should be accepted by the IRS. Did the parent report your number correctly? You can call the IRS to be sure your number is correct. I wouldn't give parents your SS#.

ok thanks tom.... I am glad that I did not. I will have to talk to the parent later tonight.
I don't understand what they are tying to do, but it sounds rather unusual.
Can I ask what an EIN number is?

An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, and is used to identify a business entity so you don't have to give out your social security number.
Here is the link to the IRS website where you can apply and get one super easy!
