Seriously what is wrong with people. Just got a message from dcb. She has to work out of town tomorrow and wants to know if darling can come at 5:30. I am open 7:30 to 5:30.

I would say the earliest is 7:30am for drop-off. Or she can pay $80 extra for the 2 extra hours before my opening.

For me it would depend on my relationship w her. If I respect them I am more apt to special favors.
And I'd charge $20-$30 for the early time.
If she was a snowflake I'd refuse.

I don't see anything wrong with asking. When you're looking for a child care solution, your child care provider is probably the first person you think of. Though this is way too last minute for me to agree to it.

There's also nothing wrong or rude about you declining.

No I guess I don't see anything wrong with asking when I think about it, but when I work until 5:30, opening at 5:30 is just not going to happen imo. She is having grandma take him for the night and he'll get dropped off in the morning later. I have to drive 5 hours after work, so I don't want to get up at 5 and be too tired.

I had mom overpay me this week because I helped them out in a similar situation. When I pointed it out and assured her that I had already charged for her the extra time her response was "Oh, I know. We just want you to know we really appreciate it." ...I know they're not most families, but sometimes even the great families get in a bind and need some flexibility.

I would do it for a good family. It is one day and you can get to bed earlier....totally up to you though.

Sometimes as care providers we are the most trusted when it comes to taking care of their kids so they almost always ask us first. I know this is why my families ask me for extra time or extra days. Sometimes I want to do it and sometimes I don't. I don't know why jr can't stay over at grandmas the night before but maybe she just wanted to ask you first.

I have no issue with them asking as long as they do it nicely and don't give me crap if my answer is no.
