In my state (PA), to be a director of your own child care center you have to have a degree in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or "the human services field." I have a B.S. and M.S. but in criminal justice/pre-law. I canNOT find an answer on Google. Anyone know if my background would satisfy the human services field?

I know one of our members got her Director's license in FL. She wrote an article that we published here on Daycare.com which helped her requirements. https://www.daycare.com/story/multi-...h-to-learning/

Criminal justice is a human services program I would assume. In our local college guide some criminal justice classes are listed under the human services category.

I'd call the licensing dept and check with them.

at my college I am currently enrolled in, criminal justice classes are not under the human services label. Human Services is actually the name of a specific degree and you can get a bachelors or associates in human services.

cant you just call the licensing office and see if your degree would apply to a directors position?

Even if the major doesn't qualify you may still have the 30 credit hours in human services field to qualify under number '2' listed by Michael.

At my college its defined as 'Administrative Justice', every school is different.

Is there anyway you could work on liberal arts multiple subject (its one of the easier education related ones)? I am working on that as one of my minors along with Child Development (major), LA elementary education (minor), and LA behavioral science (minor). Multiple subjects is usually what most people who want to be teachers take.

But sometimes you can get a teaching permit that has multiple options for requirements (here is an example of CA): http://www.childdevelopment.org/cs/c...f?x-r=pcfile_d

Yeah I think I will look into some kind of teaching certificate. My state dept. is tough to get through to an actual person to answer questions. I hate that, it seems they want you to do everything online but some questions just aren't answered on their website!
Thanks for the replies:-)
