Forgive me if I missed an already existing thread on this. Are any of you guys doing anything for the eclipse with the kids?

I am actually feeling super guilty for sending my kids (especially my 5 year old) to daycare today. It feels like I'm sending him on a holiday and I wish my family could be together for the eclipse.

I took a pair of eclipse glasses with me to drop off in case they would be outside during the eclipse, but I was told they will be staying inside and my heart kind of broke a little bit. Wondering if any of you guys are doing anything with the kids?

We are near Salt Lake City, so only have like 92% coverage, but there's no clouds, so it'll be perfect to watch!

Today's eclipse craft. We're tracing plates on construction paper....black paper for the moon (we'll use chalk to decorate) and yellow for the sun. We're going to make a hole in the moon craft, and use it to shine the eclipse shadow onto the sun craft.

We won't "see" much where I am located but for those interested in "safely" watching, here is the link to NASA's live coverage

The eclipse is at its peak here right in the middle of nap time. Nothing but clouds here currently anyways.

Blackcat!

Thanks for the link, that's wonderful. I keep going outside of work to check on it and IT IS SO COOL!!!! I thought all the hype was dumb, but it really is pretty neat.

I've got a live cam up, too!

We are in Colorado,so we'll get pretty full coverage! We were going to stay inside, but the kids all brought glasses (and one brought a welding mask lol) so we'll give it a go!

I'm in the totality zone... totality will hit about 2:34. Most my parents got the day off due to business closings so only one babe showed - that said, all my parents KNEW I had proper glasses weeks ago so we could view outside. Most of them don't have the glasses so I'm not sure how they are handling it

We ate not in the path of totality but we did do a craft and showed kids a you tube vidio. Will skip showing them cause they are all 4 and under so even with the proper glasses I'm not risking it.

Make sure that welding mask is a 14 or higher; the lower #'d ones won't save the eyes

Unfortunately, we had unforecasted storms start around 7AM, and it is still cloudy with more rain on the way. I bought eclipse glasses for all my kids months ago, and for another provider friend, too. We were all going to go out and watch. Instead, we watched on TV, went outside and drew eclipse pictures on the sidewalks, and then came back in and watched the total eclipse on TV before naptime. My kids were SO excited, so I'm really bummed. The kids are mostly just happy to have their eclipse glasses, though, so there is a little happiness/success today!

Very cool!

I got a phone call from my daycare center asking for written permission for them to take my son outside and view with his glasses. I was told this morning that they had planned for all the kids to stay inside during it, I am so happy they called me to see if he could go out.

I'm enjoying watching it from here, even though we still had a sliver of sun. I'm glad my baby will get to see it, too. He will think it's very cool!

We stayed inside with live coverage on. I snuck out to look at the shadows on our backyard bike path though, because when the sun comes through leaves, it makes little eclipse shadows on the path.

I explained what was going to happen using a light and a few Styrofoam balls and then we did these crafts:

I didn't plan to go out and view the eclipse with the kids because they're so young. I wouldn't trust all of them to keep their glasses on while viewing it. It's nap time anyway so....they're asleep as I type this. Wish I could give it a peek, though!

We stayed inside. I don't trust the kids to keep glasses on and didn't want to risk eye damage.

I took a peak outside though

We were in 100% Totality. We watched on the tv then went outside to darkness and look at the total eclipse. It was a wonderful day. I had parents who were off work and brought their kids here.....they missed out. I hope Helped with a lasting memory, but I do know we had wonderful moments today.

I didn't quite get the "traveling to totality" hype, but now I do. I can see how cool and how different it would have been than it was here (92%) -- it was still neat, but I can see how traveling would have been worth it!

I had parents that were off, but brought their whole family for 30 minutes just to see totality because of where my house sits ( they had kept the kids home before they came over)... it was cool, set off my solar lights & there were enough adults for each of us to Rangle one little who didn't understand what was happening lol. Between all of us & neighbors it was a last minute Eclipse party between 2-2:45pm. Water, fruit, cameras, glasses & bugs that went wicked crazy when the "lights went out"

My dh lined all the kids up andput his welding helmet on each child and lifted them up to our skylight so they could see the eclipse. Even the 12 month old go a picture sent to mom with his gieant helmet on. Half of them didn't know what they were looking at they just wanted to wear "paps" hat. LOL

And yes his helmet is rated the highest you can get because of his welding work.
