In the daycare center that I work at [three to five year olds], we are having a bit of a problem with the kids saying not so nice words.

We've had a child stand up and call an older girl a bitch. Then we have a couple of other children using the word 'mother f***er'.

We've never had this problem before and therefore, we don't really have a well established policy for it.

I was wondering what you do with kids that say things like this? We are at a loss.

Thanks!

You know why you don't even see that word on this forum? We don't allow it and if someone continually used it, they would not be a member here. That's our policy. I would terminate. That language is like a disease. If you don't cure it or get rid of it, it will spread.

That's very true. Even adults are influenced. I hate to admit it, but I remember back when I was 16. I got a job at a factory working with 3 other guys doing shelf stocking. All they did was swear. After a couple months I suddenly realised I was swearing too, and I never did that before. I quit the job.

Kids talking like that need to be stopped, by the parents, or they need to go.

What does the Director say to do?

I would have a NO TOLERANCE policy for this type of behavior.

My grandmother always told us that words like that are used by those not educated or smart enough to use proper words.

Appearing "cool" in front of friends never sounded very appealing when those same words meant I was not so smart so I opted to go with grandma's advice as a kid and never developed the bad habit of using that type of language.

It's never been an issue before so there hasn't been anything enforced about it.

We've been under three different directors since getting licensed by DHS.

That's why we're seeing what other people do in case this happens.

"Mom, (or dad), we've had trouble with junior
cursing and directing those curse
words to playmates. As you can understand,
cursing is absolutely unacceptable in our environment.
Until it stops junior will be on probation.
We separate him from the group and send home if it happens again.
The next action will be immediate termination.
Your complete cooperation is appreciated.
Thank you. "

The quickest way to come up with a Code of Conduct policy, complete with consequences, that won't have too much push back, would be to use the same one your local Elementary school publishes in it's online handbook. Ex: http://www.dbqschools.org/parents/do...dent-handbook/

Many parents will already be familiar with it and they will all benefit from learning it early.

I send them to sit on the potty, every single time. Potty mouths belong in the bathroom.

I agree. A lot of parents think its cute when their kids swear. It needs to become their problem if you are going to fix it.

I think this is a great way to handle the situation.
