Default A Question I hope Someone Can Answer

I would like to open a daycare in a house on my property that I do not live in. It was a garage converted into a 2 bedroom cottage. Is this still considered an in home daycare since I do not physically live there? I live nextdoor and also own 2 dogs that will never come in contact with the children, could this stand in my way with getting insured or starting my business at all?

In my state you have to physically live there for it to be a home daycare. The only other option would be a center, but it may be too small for that option as well.

Default Connecticut Group Home Standards

It would appear that it would need to be your primary dwelling for it to be considered a "family day care home". Your service would be better described as a Group Home as stated in Sec. 19a-77. (Formerly Sec. 19-43b). "Child day care services" defined.

(2) A "group day care home" which offers or provides a program of supplementary care (A) to not less than seven or more than twelve related or unrelated children on a regular basis, or (B) that meets the definition of a family day care home except that it operates in a facility other than a private family home;
