I have an interview scheduled tomorrow with a family coming from far away. They will need childcare next month when they officially move here. They have one child and one on the way in the fall. They so far sound like they will fit well with my group as well as give me an opportunity to work less hours a week.
Here is the dilemma: Technically I only have the one opening. I have another mom also expecting a baby in the fall but she is unsure if she will go back to work right away. Her oldest will stay in childcare during this time. Eventually if both moms decide they want to stay I'll have to boot someone out. So am I honest with the family in telling them that I'm unsure if I will have an opening for both children. Or do I just say nothing and when the time comes make a decision. Also, what if they ask during the interview If I will have an opening for their infant. What do I say and how do I handle this. Obviously if the interview doesn't go well this will be an easy decision. But I want to be prepared if It does go well. I'd appreciate any help you can offer! |

Well for me business is business, if you need to fill the spot asap, do so.
You can never predict the future, what if she decided to stay home after having baby...and you had let the other family go? If she ask, I would say as of right now no I do not, however their is a strong possibility I will have space come 4-6mo from now. And the baby would be first on the list. Good Luck! |

Do you have an enrollment fee, deposit or something else that can hold that infant spot? You need to have something so that you dont have to guess which family might need you. Whoever can commitment first (aka, pay for that spot) gets it. I would never hold anything for anyone without some sort of deposit. You don't have to wait around at the mercy of these moms that want to keep you hanging on but dont want to pay anything yet...make them decide or risk not having a spot at all. This other mom already told you she was unsure so figure out a deposit or whatever and offer to this new family.
