Default I Have An Issue--I Need Ideas

I'm a regular user but wanted to post my question anon. I'll probably answer with my name because i forget.

here's the problem:
dcg is 16 months old and so attention seeking its bad. She has bit a child twice. Yesterday because no one was paying attention to her she ran up to the child (only 2 months older than her) and bit her then ran away and hid. the other day she was spitting on my ydd (she's 7) because dd was paying attention to the other child while playing with shoes. She does things to get a rise out of you. If she is laying on the floor, she will start doing stupid things so you would laugh at her but then she would continue on and on getting worse with the behavior. She's always been like this. She would cry till someone would pay attention to her, I finally broke her of this but now its the behavior. Even the mom said that she thinks this is the problem. She seeks attention so much that its crazy. She's an only child so I know the parents do pay alot of attention to her. If she bites again I'm going to lose the other child. The other child is so good. has anyone had one like this.
oh its not like i know when she's going to bite her, the first time she did it, was because the other girl had a toy and she wanted it and that was 2 weeks ago, and then yesterday totally out of the blue.

If you cant physically shadow her or have her with you at ALL times in order to address the behavior before or as it happens (and this could take weeks), then you need to let her go now before you lose the other child over it. Either you can provide what she is needing at this point or you cant, but dont feel bad if you cant.

My attention seeker was my own daughter and it was everything you described....biting, pesky behavior, showing off that escalates till its out of control, crying, running to do something and then running away when its done, things out of no where and very unpredictable. its very exhausting. i will freely admit that if she was a daycare child, there is no way that I would have kept her, I would have termed! She's 3 now and still a full time job but at least the majority of it is just attention seeking and not aggressive at this point.

When I worked at a cdc we had a biter. She didn't do the other things but she would bite if she got frustrated, which was a lot. Someone had to be next to her all the time to ensure she wouldn't bite. One time I was sitting with her and someone came to close to her personally space and she turned to bite. I was able to get my hand in the middle and boy was she surprised! The look on her face was priceless, like oh no! I'm in trouble. lol

It was easier for us because our ratio was 4:1 and we had three providers. So having one or two people on the floor with the kids at all times was easy... But I could see how this would be impossible with only one provider.

The child was an only child but I do really think she wanted attention. I started giving her some one on one time and eventually she stopped biting. But it took a long time of individual attention... Not sure if that helps. It wasn't really advice, but just my experience. It might not even be relevant, but I do know how frustrating it can be having a biter!!!

well, I have my kids home so its like having 4 extra helpers here. She has been watched all day like a hawk, but you give her an inch she takes a mile and runs with it. I let her go and sit with my kids (they are older) and she tried to hit them, so back with me she is.
