Heads of Groups: Must have an AA in early childhood education, child development, or another child-related area; or CDA credential and 2 years experience related to caring for children; or high school diploma or equivalent and 3 years experience. Additionally, if caring for a group of children under the age of 3 years, must have 1 year experience and/or training specifically in Infant and Toddler care.

 Group Child Care (Center-based) — Information for Operators
Group child care (center-based) provides care to three or more children, under 6 years of age, for five or more hours per week. These types of facilities operate for more than 30 days in a 12-month period. They may be located anywhere, except a private residence. What Group Child Care Providers Should Know: A Compliance Guide (PDF) If you are starting a new program, you must attend a pre-permit orientation (check the box next to “Group Child Care and Summer Camp Orientation Sessions”, then click “Continue” at the bottom of the page) before applying for a new permit. After you have attended that orientation, you can apply for a permit for a new child care program.

Programs must renew their permit every two years.

Family Day Care
Family day care allows for up to six children, ages 6 weeks through 12 years, plus two additional school-age children. There must always be one caregiver for every two children who are younger than 2 years old.

Group Family Day Care
Group family day care programs may have up to 12 children, ages 6 weeks to 12 years old, plus four additional school-age children. These programs must have a primary on-site caregiver and at least one assistant. There must be one caregiver for every two children who are younger than 2 years old.
